Batman is a 1989 superhero film based on the fictional DC Comics character Batman. Tim Burton directed the film, which stars Michael Keaton as Batman, as well as Jack Nicholson, Kim Basinger and Robert Wuhl. The film is the first installment of Warner Brothers' Batman film series, and tells the story of Bruce Wayne in his first weeks of being Batman. Bruce romances Vicki Vale (played by Basinger) and deals with the rise of a powerful villain known as "The Joker" (Nicholson).

The 1989 Batman is a much better memory than it is a movie. Jack Nicholson plays a great jack Nicholson that happens to be dressed like the joker, and Micheal Keaton is a pretty sweet Micheal Keaton, despite the fact that he claims to be playing Bruce Wayne... and what the fuck is Arli$$ doing in this movie?

The two redeeming factors are the all-prince soundtrack, and the quote "Gentlemen, let's broaden our minds... Lawrence!". Also, looking past any logical objections to the idea of Batman driving around in a 40 foot long art-deco drag racer.. the Batmobile looked pretty cool.

This clip pretty much sums up the movie, and serves as a suitable replacement:

I don't think this is a bad movie but I definitely think it's overrated. I love Batman but when I was growing up this was a movie that everybody seemed to like it more than me. Michael Keaton is a good actor just not a good Batman (that doesn't mean he was a terrible Batman either). Also, my major problem with the movie is that the Joker is the central character. Batman is relegated to almost a supporting role in his own movie. With that said...it is by far the best out of the original Batman films. Nicholson was pretty good as the Joker. Michael Keaton gave a respectable performance despite being miscast. Vicki Vale was completely useless. An enjoyable movie but I don't consider it to be the definitive version of Batman.
